The D chord for the ukulele is played by placing the first, second, and third fingers on the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd strings. (respectively). The fingering diagram to the left shows how the D chord is played on a ukulele with standard tuning. (GCEA). Notice that the first string is to be played open.  This can be difficult for the beginning ukulele student. But with some practice and instruction it soon becomes fairly easy.
